Amino acids are organic compounds composed of hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon and oxygen along with a variable side chain group specific to each amino acids. Amino acids are classified into 3 different groups: Essential amino acids, Nonessential Amino Acids, and conditional amino acids. The 3 most consumed essential amino acids are: Phenylalanine, Leucine, Tryptophan. Essential amino acids are vital for the functions of hormone and protein synthesis, tissue repair, and nutrient absorption. Moreover, branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) are a group of these essential amino acids: leucine, valine, and isoleucine. BCAAs are packaged and sold to supplement weight loss and reduce fatigue after physical activity. BCAAs may come from animal-based, or plant-based sources. Plant-based BCAAs are derived from both soy and corn while animal-based BCAAs come from a variety of different sources.
