Vitamin, a type of micronutrient, is an organic molecule made from multiple elements. A living being requires vitamins, in little amounts to perform bodily functions. Each organism has different vitamin requirements. For example, humans require vitamin C to stay healthy, but dogs do not. While some species can produce, or synthesize, enough vitamin C for their own needs, humans cannot. Therefore, vitamin supplements are very helpful, especially for those not absorbing or getting enough vitamins in their diet.
Today, there are 13 universally recognised vitamins. The essential vitamins the human body requires are vitamins A, C, D, E, K and the B vitamins: thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxine (B6), biotin (B7), folate (B9) and cobalamin (B12).
