Almond (Latin: Prunus dulcis) is a widely cultivated deciduous tree of the family, Rosaceae. The tree has a brown-grey bark and grows to about 3 meters in height, (more or less depending on the variety.) There are two varieties, sweet almond (P. dulcis variety dulcis) and bitter almond (P. dulcis variety amara). The tree produces an edible and widely cultivated seed or almond nut. Almonds contain vitamins, minerals, protein, and fiber, and so they offer a number of health benefits. Furthermore, almonds are sold shelled or unshelled.

Almonds grow best in Mediterranean atmospheres with warm, dry summers and mellow, wet winters. The ideal temperature for their development is somewhere in the range of 15 and 30 °C.
