A bean is the seed of one of several genera of the flowering plant part of the Fabaceae family. The plant takes about 90 days to mature and produce seeds. Its beans are most often used in Mexico for burritos, soups, and tacos.
Beans can grow in a variety of climates. Some take only months from sowing to harvest, while others can take several years before producing grains. Soil conditions and rainfall requirements vary depending on the plant.
Most varieties originate in the Neotropics where beans were domesticated thousands of years ago.
