The Chia seed (Latin: Salvia Hispanica) is a flowering plant that is a part of the mint family, Lamiaceae and is native to Central America. Chia seeds are typically oval shaped with black and white colourations. Furthermore, the seeds are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, rich in antioxidants, and they provide fiber, iron, and calcium.
Chia Seeds thrive in warmer temperatures around 25-30 degrees celsius. Chia also grow best in well-drained, sandy or loamy soil and it should be dry to moist but never wet.
Chia seeds earliest appearance in history is in the Aztec’s boats in around 3500 bce. Later in history, it was grown in Mexico and eventually got shipped around the globe and became popular for its flexibility as food and medicinal purposes.
